LBTU Included in the Prestigious QS World University Rankings
For the first time, the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LBTU) has been included in the prestigious QS World University Rankings for the 2026 edition. This global ranking assesses higher education institutions annually based on academic reputation, international outlook, research impact, sustainability, and graduate employability. LBTU has been placed in the 1201–1400 range, marking a significant step forward in the university’s international academic competitiveness.
LBTU received its strongest evaluations in the categories of Academic Reputation and Employer Reputation, both placing in the 701+ band. These results reflect the university’s growing recognition within the scientific community as well as in the labour market, where LBTU graduates are valued for their expertise and professional accomplishments.
The university also performed well in several strategically important areas, including Sustainability, International Research Network, the Faculty Student Ratio and International Student Ratio. In the newly introduced indicator International Student Diversity, which measures the proportion and diversity of international students, LBTU ranked 776th globally, representing students from 35 different nationalities. This ranking highlights both the university's appeal in the global education landscape and its ability to foster an inclusive, multicultural academic environment.
The results also highlight LBTU’s notable achievements in research quality and scientific contribution. Between 2019 and 2023, LBTU researchers published over 4500 scientific articles, which have been cited more than 6200 times. The most active research areas include life sciences, engineering, and natural sciences—the core of LBTU’s academic profile.
LBTU’s first appearance in the QS World University Rankings marks an important step in its international growth. It not only recognizes the university’s achievements in research, education, and collaboration, but also encourages further efforts toward high-quality, innovation-led education and research that support sustainable development in Latvia and beyond.
