DataverseLV Research Data Repository Launched

Image author: No LBTU arhīva

Latvia’s National Research Data Repository – DataverseLV – is now open for use. It is accessible to researchers affiliated with Latvian scientific institutions, as well as to researchers of Latvian origin worldwide. This secure digital platform ensures the long-term preservation of research data and provides access to both the research community and the wider public, thereby advancing the principles and practice of open science.

Researchers may deposit files of any format in the DataverseLV repository. The repository is fully aligned with the FAIR principles and the requirements of open science. It also supports compliance with data openness mandates set by Horizon Europe, the Latvian Council of Science, and other funding organizations. The deposition process encompasses data preparation, quality assurance, legal compliance, and the provision of appropriate documentation. A comprehensive, step-by-step guide is available on the DataverseLV website.

Researchers have access to specialized support throughout the deposition process. Data curators will assist researchers in preparing datasets for deposition and provide guidance on effective use of the repository. LBTU data curators can be contacted via email: datukuratori@lbtu.lv.

DataverseLV also provides a Research Data Management Guide, developed jointly by the Higher Education and Science Information Technology Shared Service Centre (VPC) and data curators from all Latvian research universities. The guide offers practical recommendations and helps to clarify complex aspects of research data management.

Researchers of LBTU are encouraged to use DataverseLV platform for the long-term preservation and dissemination of research data, thereby contributing to the consolidation of an open science culture in Latvia. The repository welcomes not only newly generated datasets but also important data from earlier research.

About DataverseLV

DataverseLV has gained international recognition, making research data more widely discoverable. DataverseLV has become an official DataCite partner, enabling datasets to receive DOI identifiers and improving their long-term findability. The repository is listed in the international re3data.org registry of research data repositories, increasing its global visibility. It is also integrated into the OpenAIRE Explore search engine, which aggregates more than 82 million datasets and numerous other research-related resources. This integration ensures that datasets published in DataverseLV can also be found in the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) search portal.

The DataverseLV development team is actively working to ensure the repository’s sustainability and integration into international research infrastructure. It has already been included in the official installation registry of Harvard University’s Dataverse Project, increasing its international visibility. The team is also involved in the FIDELIS project, aimed at creating a trusted network of European digital repositories, which will promote integration with European initiatives. The repository is also in the process of obtaining CoreTrustSeal certification, which will formally validate its compliance with international data management standards and further strengthen its reliability and credibility.
