On 29 January, 12 international graduates of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technologies of the Latvian University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LBTU) received their higher education diplomas.

All graduation photos will be published.

Higher education diplomas were awarded to three graduates of the professional bachelor’s study programme "Information Technologies for Sustainable Development", who obtained a Professional Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technologies and the qualification of Programming Engineer. Programming engineers acquire knowledge of programming languages, system modelling, development of web systems of varying complexity, database creation and use, thus becoming highly qualified specialists in software engineering and being ready to professionally integrate into software development projects.

Meanwhile, nine international graduates of the academic master’s study programme "Information Technologies" received a Master of Engineering degree in Information Technologies. During their studies, students acquired the skills necessary to independently carry out activities in the field of information technologies related to scientific research as well as software and hardware design and development. Throughout the study process, they deepened their knowledge of information technology analysis, design and implementation methods and became familiar with modern software development models and techniques. In addition to practical application, the programme also provides fundamental skills in scientific research.

The attendees at the graduation ceremony were addressed by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technologies, Ruslans Šmigins: "This is a very significant day for all of us, as you – the graduates – are entering the IT sector as new professionals. The IT industry is one of the fastest-growing and most profitable sectors in the world, which means that the demand for highly qualified IT specialists will significantly exceed supply in the future. A wide range of opportunities is opening up for you – to become programmers, engineers, project managers, startup founders and industry leaders both in Latvia and internationally. The study period was not easy. Many of you had to move far away from home, adapt to a new environment, integrate into society and work under conditions marked by rapid technological and social change. However, your perseverance, personal motivation and desire to achieve your goals – to become top-level professionals – have brought you to this graduation day. The diplomas you receive today are proof of your hard work, knowledge and growth. You have successfully completed your studies, and the faculty is truly proud of you. I sincerely congratulate you on your achievements and wish you courage, responsibility and success in your future professional path!"

In turn, LBTU Vice-Rector for Science Gatis Vītols emphasised: "I am very pleased to see an increasing number of international students arriving from different countries around the world and choosing to study at the Latvian University of Life Sciences and Technologies. You are now part of a strong and growing alumni community. The international student body is growing rapidly – you are no longer just one or two students, but a significant part of our academic environment. We see growing interest in our study programmes – not only in one specific programme, but in several others as well. You obtain a degree recognised in Europe and knowledge that is valuable throughout Europe. You may stay in Latvia or work abroad – both are equally important to us, as we think globally and open doors to international markets. We hope that wherever your future path leads – whether you return to your home country or build your life in Europe – you will contribute to society with your solutions and help improve people’s quality of life. Reviewing the bachelor’s and master’s theses developed this year, we see highly topical themes. Artificial intelligence is entering all sectors, new solutions are constantly emerging on the market, and therefore you will not lack employment opportunities. I would like to emphasise that artificial intelligence will not replace you – on the contrary, people will be needed to train, develop and use it to help others. Whatever path you choose in the future, I encourage you to be courageous, open and proactive. You are part of our university, and we are proud of you!"

The winter graduation series will conclude with the graduation ceremony for graduates of Economics and Social Development. Previously, diplomas were also awarded to graduates of the Faculty of Forest and Environmental Sciences. It should be noted that the 2026 graduation ceremonies will continue in June, when graduates of all study programmes implemented at LBTU will receive their diplomas.
