Ulbroka Science Centre

Ulbroka Science Centre was founded in 1960 as the Latvian Scientific Research Institute for the Mechanization and Electrification of Agriculture. Over the years, its name and administrative alignment have changed several times.

Since 2023, the Ulbroka Science Centre has been part of the Institute of Engineering Sciences and Energy, under the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technologies at the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies. The Ulbroka Science Centre is active in several key areas: conducting scientific research, developing new research methodologies, and commercializing its research outcomes.

Priority areas of research:

  • Development of methods for the efficient use of agricultural machinery in both conventional and organic farming.

  • Development and justification of the functional models for technical and technological processes in agriculture.

  • Development of a methodology for the assessment of  the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of agricultural technologies, and calculation of the emissions.

The strategic development goals of the Ulbroka Science Centre are to:

  • Expand the use of sustainable alternative energy resources in agriculture and establish an agricultural technology research centre;

  • Intensify cooperation with Latvian and international scientific institutions to attract EU funding for innovative projects;
