"Design Dialogue" at LBTU – A conference on creativity, technology and entrepreneurship
The Institute of Mechanics and Design of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technologies at the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LBTU) invites students, academic staff, and all interested parties to attend the conference “Design Dialogue” on April 23 at 9:30 AM, taking place at Čakstes Boulevard 5, Room 502.
The aim of the conference is to promote an understanding of the role of design in the creation of new products and to explore various aspects of the creative industries—from design and fashion to technology and entrepreneurship. Discussions will focus on how design can serve as a foundation for innovative solutions, how creative ideas can be transformed into successful businesses, and how modern technologies influence the development of design.
The event will bring together three representatives of the creative industries:
SIA "Luula" – a company awarded the German Design Award in 2024, specializing in the production of original, sustainable, and multifunctional Montessori furniture for children;
PAADE MODE – an internationally recognized and award-winning slow fashion brand for children, which also offers women's clothing collections;
Katrīnas keramika – a brand known for creating porcelain tableware designed to enhance both everyday life and special occasions.
Attendees will have the opportunity to hear firsthand experience stories from professionals in the design field who have achieved success both in Latvia and internationally.
To ensure the smooth organization of the event, those interested are kindly requested to register by contacting the event coordinator, LBTU lecturer Laura Boldiševica, via email: laura.boldisevica@lbtu.lv.
This conference holds particular significance for current and prospective students of LBTU, as the university offers a Bachelor’s study programme in “Design and Craft”, which combines creativity with a practical approach to design, a deep understanding of materials, and technological thinking. The programme equips students with contemporary design practices, artistry traditions, and innovation, enabling them to create functional objects and prototypes with benefit. Graduates become competitive professionals in the field of design, capable of working independently, engaging in entrepreneurship, and collaborating with engineers, architects, and business leaders.
