Young people invited to participate in the Hospitality summer school sessions
The Faculty of Agriculture and Food Technology (LBTU PTF) at the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LBTU) in Jelgava will organize the Hospitality Summer School for the sixth consecutive year, aiming to introduce young people to the hospitality industry and explore its key intricacies. Young individuals aged 15 to 20 are invited to register for the event, which will take place from June 9 to June 13, with sessions held both online via the LBTU e-learning platform (Monday to Thursday) and in person (Friday) from 10:00 to 13:00.
Organizing the Hospitality Summer School has become a tradition, but its content is tailored each year to reflect current trends in Latvia and globally. This year's theme is "The Dynamic World of Hospitality". Knowledge and expertise will be shared by representatives from the Hospitality Division of the Food Institute and academic staff involved in the professional bachelor’s study program “Catering and Hotel Management”, as well as students.
The event will begin on June 9 at 10:00 on the LBTU e-learning platform with an opening address by the school’s organizer Gita Krūmiņa-Zemture, followed by participation in experiments, lectures, and other activities.
The first day is dedicated to the topic of "Sustainability", covering three sessions:
“Catering Services as a Part of Latvian Culture” – Gita Krūmiņa-Zemture, Lecturer at the Food Institute
“Restaurants in the Future Perspective” – Jānis Jenzis, Lecturer at the Food Institute
“A Taste Journey Around Latvia: Gastronomic Tourism” – Edgars Pažerauskis, Lecturer at the Food Institute
On June 10, the focus will be on "Communication", including:
“The Role of Strategic Communication in Hospitality” – Marta Eglīte, Lecturer at the Food Institute
“Are We the Same or Different?” – Sandra Īriste, Associate Professor at the Food Institute
“Effective Stress Management” – Kitija Kirila, Associate Professor at the Institute of Social and Humanitarian Sciences
On June 11, discussions will revolve around "Innovation", with the following presentations:
“Artificial Intelligence in Hospitality” – Mārtiņš Šabovics, Associate Professor at the Food Institute
“Innovations in Hospitality” – Rita Riekstiņa-Dolģe, Associate Professor at the Food Institute
“Youth Nutrition in Today’s Dynamic World” – Ilze Beitāne, Professor at the Food Institute
On Thursday, June 12, the topic will be "Studies and Research", with several sessions:
“Studies in Hospitality – a Place for Youth Development” – Gita Krūmiņa-Zemture, Lecturer at the Food Institute
“Student Research in Hospitality” – 4th-year students of the “Catering and Hotel Management” program
“The Plant World in Hospitality Business Interiors” – Irina Sivicka, Lecturer at the Institute of Soil and Plant Sciences
On the final day, June 13, participants will have the opportunity to visit Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LBTU) at Jelgava Palace, where several practical sessions will take place under the theme "Practice at Jelgava Palace":
Chemistry-focused lab “Chemistry in Hospitality” – Ingmārs Cinkmanis, Associate Professor at the Food Institute
Food technology lab “Excellent Meal in Just 15 Minutes” – Liene Jansone, Lecturer at the Food Institute
Additionally, participants will enjoy a guided tour of Jelgava Palace led by Ginta Linīte, Head of the Palace Museum, who will share fascinating insights into the history, construction, and former residents of the palace. The program will conclude with the closing event of the 6th Hospitality Summer School.
