The graduates were addressed by LBTU Vice-Rector for Finance Linards Sisenis: "This year in the Chinese calendar symbolizes four values – courage, energy, speed, and freedom. And it is symbolic that these values also characterize you, the graduates who are receiving your diplomas today. Why? Because courage was undoubtedly required to take on the challenge of studying and to integrate into the academic environment. For many, it was a courageous step to begin an independent life away from home and a familiar environment. Energy was also essential, and I am glad that you had enough of it to achieve your set goals. Without a doubt, speed was necessary for you to get to lectures on time, successfully submit your coursework, and ultimately complete your final thesis. And finally – freedom. Many world thinkers have emphasized that knowledge is what provides freedom – the freedom to continue learning, to shape one’s life, and to develop a career according to one’s own aspirations. I wish you to make use of the freedom that knowledge gained at our university provides – to use this knowledge to build not only your own lives and careers, but also a free, independent, and prosperous Latvia."
