Fish Processing Biotechnology Study and Research Centre

The Fish Processing Biotechnology Study and Research Center offers opportunities for research and pilot trials in the fields of fish processing, preservation, and storage, using modern equipment and pilot-scale technologies. The center develops new products, improves technological processes, designs solutions for extending shelf life, and explores ways to reduce the cost of finished products.
The center serves as a knowledge transfer platform between science, education, and industry, promoting innovation and increasing public awareness of the sector’s importance. It is the only center of its kind in the Baltic region.
Equipped as a small-scale production facility, the center includes around 60 fish processing machines, more than 30 laboratory devices, and a dedicated tasting room. It provides students and academic staff with hands-on experience in the study process and opportunities to participate in local and international projects supporting the development of a sustainable blue economy.
Research Directions and Activities of the Center:
Development of innovative fish product varieties
Development of new fish processing technologies and improvement of existing methods
Exploration of the use of by-products in fish processing
Research of both modern and traditional packaging solutions
Development of techniques to extend shelf life
Reduction of production costs for processed fish products
Exploration of consumer attitudes toward new products through surveys and tastings
Quality control of raw materials and final products
Research and development in the field of blue biotechnology
