The Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LBTU) has officially joined the EIT Food Partnership as a Delivery Partner, marking an important milestone in the university's international collaboration and innovation activities.

EIT Food is one of the Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs) of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT). It brings together universities, research organisations, companies and startups to build a healthier, more sustainable and resilient food system across Europe.

"International cooperation is an essential component of LBTU’s development, as it provides an opportunity to be part of the European knowledge and innovation area. Participation in the EIT Food partnership demonstrates the university’s competence and opens up new opportunities for our researchers, students and cooperation partners to engage in innovation initiatives at the European level. It will enable the development of new collaborative projects, strengthen knowledge transfer and promote the creation of innovative solutions for the development of a sustainable food system," emphasizes LBTU Rector Irina Arhipova.

This partnership builds on LBTU's experience as the host of EIT Food Hub Latvia during 2024–2025 and further strengthens the university's role within the European agrifood innovation ecosystem.

Becoming an EIT Food Partner enables LBTU to take a more active role in advancing agrifood innovation through research, education, entrepreneurship and international collaboration. The partnership creates new opportunities for researchers, students and industry partners to participate in collaborative projects, engage with European innovation networks and contribute to the development of sustainable food systems.

For Latvia, this partnership strengthens the country's presence within one of Europe's leading agrifood innovation communities. It creates new opportunities to connect Latvian researchers, businesses and innovators with international partners, fostering knowledge exchange, accelerating innovation and increasing participation in European initiatives.

LBTU will continue contributing its expertise in food science, biotechnology, sustainable bioeconomy, innovation support and knowledge transfer while working together with EIT Food partners to develop resilient, sustainable and innovation-driven food systems across Europe.
