LBTU – EIT Food Partner

Since 19 June 2026, the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LBTU) has been an EIT Food Partner, strengthening the University’s engagement in the European food innovation, research and entrepreneurship ecosystem.

EIT Food is a Knowledge and Innovation Community of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), bringing together universities, research organisations, companies, start-ups and other stakeholders across the food system. Its activities span research and innovation collaboration, education, entrepreneurship and public and policy engagement, with the aim of advancing a sustainable, healthy and resilient European food system.

Opportunities through the EIT Food Partnership

Participation in the EIT Food Partnership expands LBTU’s capacity to develop international cooperation and engage in the development and implementation of collaborative research and innovation initiatives.

The partnership provides opportunities for:

  • researchers and scientists – to establish collaboration with European research organisations and industry partners, develop interdisciplinary project concepts and support the translation of research results into practical applications;

  • project teams – to identify relevant funding and collaboration opportunities, build international consortia and develop projects aligned with EIT Food and European research and innovation priorities;

  • companies and collaboration partners – to establish cooperation with European research, technology and industry organisations and participate in the development, validation and implementation of innovative solutions;

  • start-ups and innovators – to access EIT Food opportunities in entrepreneurship development, market validation, acceleration, expert support and international networking.

The partnership strengthens LBTU’s capacity to connect research, technological development and entrepreneurship, while supporting the integration and visibility of Latvian scientific expertise and innovation within the European food and bioeconomy innovation ecosystem.

 

LBTU and EIT Food Cooperation in 2024–2025

LBTU’s cooperation with EIT Food began prior to becoming an EIT Food Partner. From 2024 to 2025, LBTU coordinated EIT Food HUB activities in Latvia, together with the Latvian Rural Advisory and Training Centre and the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia.

During this period, EIT Food Hub Latvia at LBTU served as a regional contact point, facilitating the participation of Latvian researchers, students, companies, start-ups and public-sector representatives in EIT Food programmes and activities. Entrepreneurship and education programmes, discussions, hackathons and other collaborative initiatives were implemented to foster knowledge transfer and strengthen the international integration of Latvia’s food innovation ecosystem.

The experience and cooperation network developed through EIT Food Hub Latvia provided a foundation for LBTU’s further institutional engagement within the EIT Food Partnership.
