ICA (Association for European Life Science Universities)

ICA (Association for European Life Science Universities) is a network of more than 50 universities from the European Union and neighboring countries. These institutions are dedicated to life sciences and focus on topics related to the circular bioeconomy, including agriculture, forestry, the food value chain, and the biobased economy, as well as the sustainable use of natural resources, biodiversity, environmental protection, and rural development.

ICA’s mission is to support and promote the role of life science universities in Europe by advancing education, research, and innovation for a sustainable bioeconomy and society. It creates platforms for collaboration, mutual learning, and the exchange of knowledge and best practices. The association also represents its members in European institutions and networks, ensuring their voices are heard in policy discussions and strategic initiatives. In addition, ICA brings together the expertise of its member institutions to support the transition toward sustainability not only within Europe but also globally.

As a member of ICA, the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LBTU) benefits from valuable networking, professional development, and international collaboration opportunities. ICA connects members through conferences and workshops that foster the exchange of ideas, promote innovative academic practices, and support curriculum development and student mobility.

LBTU also gains access to the European dimension of ICA’s work, including support for joint EU project applications, updates on policy and research agendas, and involvement in setting strategic priorities within the European Higher Education and Research Areas. ICA strengthens member representation in European networks and institutions, while also offering expert insights on emerging trends in education, skills, employability, and research policy.
