The Baltic University Programme (BUP)

The Baltic University Programme (BUP) is one of the largest university cooperation networks in the world, with more than 110 participating universities in the Baltic Sea Region including Latvia Univeristy of Life Sciences and Technologies. It fosters collaboration in education and research, particularly in the areas of sustainable development and democracy.
The BUP aims to develop new forms of interaction—both among universities and between universities and society. Its primary goal is to strengthen regional academic communities while increasing awareness of sustainability challenges and democratic values.
Interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approaches are central to addressing global challenges and achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals. BUP promotes these approaches by connecting research, education, and innovation across borders and disciplines. While integrating various academic perspectives, BUP structures its activities around ten key themes: Climate Change, Energy Systems, Sustainable Societies, Sustainable Water Resources, Urban-Rural Development, Sustainable Mobility, Circular Economy, Sustainable Tourism, Education for Sustainable Development, and Sustainable Food Systems.
Researchers, teachers, and students from Latvia Univeristy of Life Sciences and Technologies may take part in BUP activities, including student and teacher conferences, summer schools, seminars, PhD training sessions, research events, as well as online courses and webinars.
The programme is coordinated by the BUP Coordinating Secretariat at Uppsala University, Sweden
