EnerForest
From 24 to 26 November, the EnerForest hackathon took place, where almost 35 students spent 48 hours solving the challenges faced by forest industry companies - JSC "Latvijas Valsts meži" and JSC "Latvijas Finieris" - while developing their business ideas. The event was one of the final ones within the project "Promoting Innovation Skills and Entrepreneurial Capacity of LBTU Students".
In the final of the hackathon, the team "Binary Brigade" won the first place and a 1500 euro scholarship with a solution that improves optimal path finding for forestry transporters in the forest. The second place winner, team "STOP the Deer", proposed alternative solutions to protect small animals from overpopulation, while other teams developed solutions for logistics traceability and the use of LIDAR technology in forest management.
The hackathon was organised by the Business Incubator of the Latvian University of Biosciences and Technologies in cooperation with several partner organisations, including Latvijas Valsts meži and Latvijas Finieris. The aim of the event was to promote students' entrepreneurial skills and address industry challenges by connecting young people with companies and providing mentoring from industry experts.
